The seventh episode reminds us all why we are still watching “The Leftovers.” It isn’t about the metaphorical religious stuff, but more because we are deeply invested in the characters. We are able to empathize with them, and we feel like we know them, or at least understand their human frailty. Kevin Garvey Jr., like most people, is a beautiful mess of flaws and surprising moments of virtue. It would be easy to overdue the “international assassin” device, but Lindelof has displayed patience and an innate awareness of perfect timing. He knows exactly when to send Kevin into the “Bizzaro World” for maximum effect. A triumphant episode that has Dean and Jessica feeling positive about next week’s finale.
