The Walking Dead

8-8: The Walking Dead “How It’s Gotta Be”

No episode synopsis today just an honest thank you to all of the listeners who’ve joined us on our post-apocalyptic tour of ‘The Walking Dead’! It’s been a lot of fun for both Matthew and I, and although it wasn’t an easy decision to say goodbye to this podcast, we are confident it will lead to better things for us and LSG Media. So thank you for putting up with our nonsense over the years, and thank you for liking us enough to check out our other shows. Plenty of our long-time listeners (to other shows) found LSG Media through our TWD coverage and for that we will forever be grateful. As we’ve mentioned more than once we will be maintaining our Facebook group that is dedicated to the show. Jump on in and hang out with the coolest listeners on the planet. Farewell!

8-7: The Walking Dead “Time For After”

Matthew and Dean reminisce about the first time that Matthew reached out to Dean to be a guest on his solo TWD podcast, which at the time, wasn’t an exclusive TWD podcast. Dean even digs up an old voicemail from Matthew to play for nostalgia. As for the episode, the lads get into Eugene, and they both agree that he was great. They heap plenty of praise onto Negan, Eugene, and Dwight. The also get into the leadership qualities of both Rick and Negan and how they affect the people that surround them. Does Rick have NO control over the key players in his group? Is Rick the leader or just someone that people tolerate? All descriptors that could have been used to describe Negan once upon a time, and ironically, his people seem to respect (or at least fear) Negan to the point of falling in line without going off on rogue missions. Don’t miss the episode before our last!

8-6: The Walking Dead “The King, the Widow, and Rick”

What exactly is Rick’s plan? Does it hinge on an alliance with Jadis and her junkyard pals? Why do all of the characters just run off on their own missions outside of the established plan? Is it because it makes sense or is it because the show needs them to do stuff? Does Maggie convince you that she is a leader? What’s Enid up to? What was Aaron’s boyfriend’s name again? Is Ezekiel’s “reluctant leadership” bit something we’ve seen before? All this and more as we mercifully march our way to the end of the half-season. Relax – Matthew has plenty of positive things to say.

8-5: The Walking Dead “The Big Scary U”

Matthew and Dean agree: this is the best episode of the season. They talk Goosebumps books, Negan, and Father G. The lads appreciated the insight into the inner-workings of the Saviors leadership structure. Watching the lieutenants lose control of the Sanctuary outside of Negan’s influence was compelling, and although they weren’t incompetent it did become apparent that without Negan the Saviors would descend into chaos. Rick and Daryl’s fight was a cheesy device used to get rid of the balance-tipping weapons they just captured, but it was actually – and brace yourself – interesting to see Daryl do something different. It’s a good week of TWD. Make sure you listen to the big announcement at the end of the episode. It’s important!

8-4: The Walking Dead “Some Guy”

Matthew and Dean ratchet back the criticism a little bit to shed some light onto Khary Payton who is forced out of his comfort zone to bring some actual emotion to King Ezekiel. Both Matthew and Dean agree that Zeke shines this week, and they were both pleased to see Carol getting back to some of her old ways. There are still problems with the execution of the action and the lads are forced to go back to season three to remind people of the excellent action and gun-play that once was.

8-3: The Walking Dead “Monsters”

Does ‘The Walking Dead’ have anything left to say? Is 8 seasons too many? Are the same conflicts (will we kill and be just like them or will we rise above it?) being trotted out again and again? Does TWD suffer from a limited setting in which to tell stories? Are there any goals worth fighting for outside of survival? Is survival enough… still? The lads go into it again, but they manage to mine two positives this week: Daryl (gasp!) and Rick.

8-2: The Walking Dead “The Damned”

The Walking Dead is back. This episode gets so outrageous that we are going to say very little in the show notes this week. Grab your zip ties, your colors, and prepare yourselves for hilarity… holmes.

8-1: The Walking Dead “Mercy”

The Walking Dead is back. Dean’s TWD existential crisis continues. Matthew continues to be a beacon of hope against the fog of doubt. They lads talk recon missions, coordinated attacks, snipers, speeches, and armored (but not really) cars. The lads bat around the idea of Rick being as developed as he will ever be, and they ponder if the show could move on beyond him. If Rick dies does the show end? Plenty discussed on this week’s episode, so dive in and join the fray. Don’t be chased off by Dean’s “Negan should be dead!” rant.
